Avelox is the trade name for Moxifloxacin, an anti-bacterial pharmaceutical product marketed by Bayer, available intravenously or through eye drops to treat eye infections such pink eye. The drug was approved for use in the United States in 1999, with permitted uses including chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, skin infections and intra-abdominal infections.
Serious side effects after the use of Avelox are rare, but can include irreversible peripheral neuropathy, a condition that can affect sensation, movement and organ function. Moxifloxacin has also been linked to spontaneous tendon rupture and tendonitis, hepatitis, hallucinations or depression, and photosensitive reactions.
