Levofloxacin, with the product name Levaquin, is an anti-bacterial pharmaceutical product sold in the United States by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson & Johnson. Levaquin is commonly used in the treatment of all types of infections, including urinary tract, abdominal infections, as well as bacterial pneumonia. The drug was first approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1996.
The most serious side effect linked to Levaquin has been the risk of serious tendonitis, with a number of users experiencing the rupture of a tendon.
